Over the past seven weeks I’ve been transforming our bedroom and I’m I’m so happy with how everything turned out! This has been a very exciting (and busy) one room challenge (who am I kidding? They’re always busy) and I can’t wait to show you the end result!
I’m so grateful to all my sponsors for this room challenge. This makeover was sponsored by Stikwood, Kreg Tools, Purebond Plywood and Minted; All thoughts and opinions are my own.
In case you’ve forgotten here’s where we started:
And now…
Bam! Now that’s a grown up master bedroom retreat!
Our old IKEA Floro bed has been given a second life with a new cover that was mostly stapled on with only a little sewing for the footboard.
Our new Stikwood feature wall with Reclaimed Weathered Wood planks looks amazing and adds so much character to the room. To finish off the room I also found a new love seat at Structube for the foot of our bed which is a nice place to sit and watch TV or read.
The most complicated project for this makeover was definitely the new storage unit with tilt-out laundry baskets I build for the wall across from our bed. If you remember, this wall was previously occupied by three mismatched ikea bookcases.
But now we have a large and functional storage unit that is a perfect fit for the room.
I added a few more shelves after my last post about this bookcase and managed to get everything we were keeping back in place. Sadly I did say goodbye to my first year psychology textbooks.
Speaking of more storage, our new bedside tables have also added more storage space next to the bed. The open shelves are a nice spot for a couple of extra books and the larger tabletop means the tables look less cluttered.
I just love how these turned out and that they don’t look like an ikea hack. I also love how the stain colour looks next to the feature wall. After trying to stain pine for years this PureBond red oak has definitely spoiled me, it takes colour so beautifully.
Our new art print from Minted hangs between our windows and coordinates perfectly with the all the other colours in the room. The print is by Canadian artist Melanie Severin and is called Mesmerize.
I also bought a new duvet cover – Placid from QE Home | Quilts Etc. – doesn’t it look like it was made for the room? I mean, those are all our colours!
I’m so happy with how this room has turned out. Before this makeover our bedroom was a little neglected, filled with furniture rejected from other rooms or bought for our old apartments which were much smaller. Now we have a comfortable and more organized retreat that is really nice to spend time in.
Thank you so much for following a long with my makeover! I’ll hope you check out all the other amazing guest participant reveals that are taking place today – See them all over on Calling it Home!

it looks awesome, casey! i love the little settee at the foot of the bed!
Thanks Cassie!! It’s definitely a comfy spot to put up my feet 🙂
OMG that feature wall! I’m obsessed! It is just stunning… thanks a lot 😉 Now I feel like I want to do another space!
I love how the room turned out! Those built-ins look so amazing! It looks like a nice place to retreat after a long day. Great job!
Love how everything turned out! And I really liked that you kept the original wall colour too, but still managed to create a big transformation 🙂
I was so looking forward to the finished product. Amazing transformation. You should be very proud of how it turned out. Well Done!
Thanks Marg!! We’re really happy with how it turned out ?
Casey, amazing job. Love, love the feature wall. And I really love the paint colour. Are you able to share what it is?
Casey your bedroom is beautiful!! Such a grown up space and laundry baskets that tilt out from the built-ins?!! I need some of those! Wonderful job!!
Thanks for the great review of all of your creative bedroom projects; you worked so hard and they all turned out beautifully. Congratulations!
Really inspiring! Your entire design meshes so much with the colors and many of the looks I love. I especially admiredthe accent wall out of Stikwood so much I’m now pricing out products. Even I (Ms. No Skills Whatsoever) can peel and stick once I buy a level (don’t own one). Have you had any issues with the glue bond loosening on the wall with hot or humid weather?
Hi Jan! We’ve had no problems with the boards at all, they’re really stuck on there! I just applied them this past October so they haven’t experienced a humid summer yet, but from what I’ve read I’m not worried 🙂
