Our front door has experienced it’s forth colour overhaul in it’s very short life. Four?? Yes, I know…it’s a little nuts. Here’s what happened: Our door started it’s life as a boring white then one day our builders sent painters by to paint the doors, but they brought the wrong colour so the door became green. The entire development complained so the painters came back and painted the door the correct colour – which in our case was a pale yellow.
Okay, let me stop right there. A big reason why we selected blue siding for the house was because I really, really, REALLY wanted to have a blue house with a red door. It’s classic look that I’m absolutely in love with. However, the the colour package our builder had put together had blue siding with a pale yellow door, no changes.
So at this point our poor door had been painted so many colours and then we went ahead and did it one more time. As soon as the weather was warm enough to stand outside without a parka on I ran to Lowes and grabbed every red paint chip I thought might look. I then came home, proceeded to cut them up and tape them them to the siding next to the front door.
Yes, it looked ridiculous. Yes, I got some funny looks from our neighbours. But you know what? It worked. We stood out on the lawn and were able to quickly cut the reds that were too pink, too brown, too light, too dark etcetera etcetera until we had narrowed it down to the one red we liked the most – Crimson from Eddie Bauer home.
