2018 is fast approaching and, as an interior decorator, I’ve been attending quite a few events around the hot home decor trends for 2018 – here are some of my favourites that are easy to add to your home right now.
Marble
I don’t think that classic marble will ever go out of style. What I love about this look for 2018 is that we’ll be seeing marble on more surfaces than just counters and tiles – think wallpaper, throw pillows and bedding too!
Lacquer
While matte, chalk and distressed finishes have been popular for a while, the high-gloss finish of lacquer is making a come back. Add it in small doses with a lacquered tray or go big with furniture. I especially love the look of a mid century modern inspired lacquer nightstand.
Patina
Another cool finish that will be hot in 2018 is patina. My favourite is the green/metallic look of rusting copper, but there are so many variations to play with. I love the idea of adding this in small touches. I’ll definitely be trying it using Pretty Handy Girl’s easy DIY tutorial for recreating this finish using paint, or The Gathered Home’s tutorial for an anthropologie inspired wall clock.
Antique/Brushed Brass
I think we’re seeing an end to the rose gold home decor trend and the rise of brass. Not the shiny brass of the ‘90s and early 2000s, but a more modern brushed finish that has warmer tones than a pure gold. I especially love this finish for faucets and light fixtures.
Rustic Touch Wood
One of the hottest flooring trends for 2018 are rustic touch wood floors – think grooves, texture and knots, all in rich natural brown tones. Get this look with new “handscraped” flooring or find a local source for reclaimed wood floors. If a flooring makeover is not in the cards you can still bring this trend into your home in furniture or even a reclaimed wood accent wall.
Textured Accessories
My friends – Hygge is staying strong in 2018 – which means to big beautiful large knit throws are not going anywhere. Find one in the perfect shade on Etsy or try making your own using my favourite arm knitting tutorial (by Simply Maggie). Add some textured pillows to the mix for a perfect textured combo – look for neutrals with fringe, pompoms and mixed fabrics.
Cement Tiles
We will be seeing more of the beautiful patterns and textures of cement tiles in 2018 as well. These versatile tiles can add beauty to your floors, wall or backsplash. The options are limitless with all the colours and patterns available. I also love that Remington Avenue has created a tutorial for painting your existing tiles for a similar look – Something I would love to try at my house!
What do you think of these trends for 2018? Are you excited for them or over them? Planning to try some at your home? I’d love to know!
