Are you doing anything special to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday this year? Canada Day long weekend will be extra special because we’ll be hosting an epic family birthday party for the five of us with birthdays between June 1 and August 1. We’ll be celebrating in the backyard with family and some appropriately grown-up cocktails before heading to the lake for Fireworks, naturally.
And really…is there a better way to celebrate than by mixing two amazing cocktails into one frozen flag of deliciousness? No, no there isn’t.
Canada Flag Frozen Cocktails
The first step to making these beauties is to mix up a batch of frozen bourbon lemonade: combine 1 pitcher of lemonade with approximately 4 cups and 1/2 – 3/4 cups of bourbon. You can make your lemonade from scratch but I use the frozen stuff just because #priorities.
Transfer the slushy lemonade to a large airtight bag (or similar container) and put in the freezer to keep solid while you make your strawberry daiquiris. I used a mix for mine with a few fresh strawberries thrown in for good measure, but you could also mix up a batch from scratch (this is my favourite recipe).
Once both your frozen drinks layer your daiquiri then frozen lemonade then daiquiri again to create a Canada flag in your glass!
In my house everyone gets one pretty flag drink and the leftovers are mixed together into a lovely Strawberry Lemonade…Bourburi? Whatever you call it, it’s delicious and perfect for enjoying out on the deck at your Canada Day party this year.
Because it’s an extra special Canada Day weekend I’ll also be decorating the deck in some festive red and white! I’ve picked up some fun Canada themed cushions from QE Home and Loblaws and made some Canada Flag bunting using a DIY tutorial from Botanical Paperworks (they have a 4th of July version too!).
