Okay, I’m going to start this $100 room makeover update with a disclaimer: I’m on a road trip right now so makeover progress is happening REALLY SLOWLY – BUT I did manage to get some stuff done before mum and I hit the road to Atlanta!
First, I’ve turned my leftover shelving into a beautiful wall cabinet with the help of my Kreg jig, some leftover paint from our kitchen makeover and some 1/4″ plywood. Did I take a picture of this cabinet before I left on my road trip? Apparently not. All I have is this in progress shot:
Because I plan on installing this cabinet close to the ceiling I decided to create sliding cabinet doors, in that photo I’ve attached a 1/2″ metal channel to my cabinet frame in which the 2 plywood doors slide.
The newel posts I bought from the ReStore have been cut down, primed and painted. Once my countertop is ready I’ll attach them at the front and use some heavy-duty brackets to support the weight of the counter at the back.
Oh my countertop? My favourite part so far! I made it from two pieces of rough pine leftover from our kitchen shelves. One had a pretty nasty groove in the side that I was hoping would give it a “live edge” feel – mission accomplished!
I know, it’s not a super exciting update, but hey – I’ve been driving across the US with my mum visiting all stores we don’t have back home in Canada – I’ve never been in a Cost Plus World Market and I have a feeling I’m going to love it.
So what’s left on my room makeover to-do list when I’m back home:
- Install the wall cabinet with a shelf below
- Install the countertop with brackets & newel post legs for support
- Hang bead board wallpaper
- Decorate & style
Can I get that all done in the 3 days I’ll have once I’m back from my Haven Conference road trip? We’ll see lol!
Costs This Week:
Brackets (4): $19.05
Total Spent: $62.05
Budget Remaining: $37.96
