Bathroom Vanity Design Hack for my One Room Challenge Makeover

Welcome to week two of my main bathroom one room challenge! Last week I shared some before pics of our bathroom and my design inspiration mood board. This week I thought I’d share a little more about the bathroom vanity. This is what it looks like currently:

One Room Challenge Bathroom Vanity Before

It’s OK. But…just OK. This is the builder basic vanity. Three cabinets with plain front doors and no interior shelves. The countertop is a brown laminate and the sink is functional, but small. We also have a larger-than–necessary mirror and a horrible light fixture…but I’ll talk about both of those some other time.

Essentially, my plan for the vanity is to repurpose the frame into a more function storage space, update the counter and add a new sink and faucet. So far, I’ve removed the existing counter, sink & faucet and have started my faux butcher block countertop. The faucet just arrived today (and it’s so pretty) so I haven’t been able to cut any holes yet, but as soon as I’ve figured out the placement of the sink and faucet I’ll be cutting my holes and finishing off the wood.

I think I want to add another coat of stain first though because this is looking a little pale – what do you think?

Hopefully I’ll be ready to start on the rest of the cabinet this weekend. What’s that going to look like? Well, I started browsing around Pinterest looking for some inspiration and the closest thing I could find to what’s in my head is this:

Gorgeous right? So my final (as of right now) plan looks like this:

Except in bright turquoise! Like this:

Still with me? lol yeah…I’m worried I may have bitten off more than I can chew with this one. Why not just buy a new bathroom vanity? Well…where’s the fun in that? Hopefully this weekend I’ll be able to do a major clean out of the cabinets and can start construction on the drawers!

Wish me luck! And don’t forget to check out all the other guest participants in this fall’s one room challenge over at Calling it Home! https://www.callingithome.com/blog/2016/10/one-room-challenge-guest-participants-week-2

  1. It’s going to be AMAZING!! I am doing something similar in my bath, except I don’t think I am going to have room for open shelves. I might just try though! And that bright turquoise picture is one of my inspiration pics as well! So excited to see how it comes out, good luck and have fun!!
